View Alerts

As discussed in Detectors and Alerts, alerts are triggered by rules contained in detectors. You can view currently active alerts on the Alerts page or in the Infrastructure Navigator.

Viewing active alerts on the Alerts page

To review all the active alerts in your organization, hover over Alerts in the navigation bar and select Active Alerts. This tab displays counters that indicate the number of active alerts in your organization at each severity level.

Tip

A maximum of 1000 alerts can be displayed. If you can’t find a particular alert you are searching for, consider using a filter to reduce the number of matching alerts.

Below the counters is a list of all active alerts. If the notification for an alert was muted, an indicator will be displayed next to the alert.

Click any item in the list to view details about the alert. In the details popup, you can click Resolve to set the alert’s status to “Resolved”, click View in detector to open the detector that triggered the alert (see Viewing active alerts for a specified detector), or click Close to return to the alerts list.

Tip

To open the detector that triggered the alert without viewing the alert details, click the name of the detector in the list of active alerts. Similarly, you can resolve an alert without viewing its details, by selecting Resolve from the alert’s Actions menu.

Filtering alerts

You can click on any of the five large alert counters to drill down into alerts of that single severity level; a filter for severity level is added. Clicking on the same counter again removes the filter, and returns you to the previously displayed counters. Clicking on a different counter changes the severity level in the filter.

You can also use the Filter field to show only alerts that are relevant to particular tags or dimensions. In the example below, clicking Apply will filter the Active Alerts tab to show alerts from two AWS availability zones.

Grouping alerts by specified properties

Use the Group by field to group the alerts by one or more properties. In the example below, the counters are grouped by host, and instead of a list of alerts, you see alert counters for each group. This feature allows you to do a hierarchical grouping (up to two levels).

When you are using the Group by fields, you can drill down into the smaller counters to see only alerts for the selected group. In this case, drilling down adds two filters, one for severity level and one for the group. As above, clicking on the large alert counters removes or toggles severity filters. To return to the original set of alerts for the entire organization, manually delete the filter for the group.

Viewing active alerts for a specified detector

To view or hide active alerts for a detector, hover over Alerts in the navigation bar and select Detectors. This tab displays a list of your organization’s detectors. Click the icon to the left of a detector name to view or hide its active alerts.

Clicking on a detector name opens the detector. When you open a detector, a counter showing the number of active alerts for each rule is displayed.

Click any of the counters to view a list of active alerts for that rule.

If there are multiple filters in the view, you can remove any of them to see a wider range of alerts for that detector. In the following illustration, the filter for severity level has been removed.

Viewing active alerts in the Infrastructure Navigator

As discussed in Using the information tabs in Infrastructure Navigator, you can also see a list of active alerts when you are viewing multiple hosts in the Infrastructure Navigator. The Alerts tab displays the subset of alerts that are active for your current view (collectd hosts, AWS instances), etc. To view the Infrastructure Navigator, click Infrastructure on the navigation bar.
