Instrument Java applications for Splunk Observability Cloud 🔗

The Splunk Distribution of OpenTelemetry Java provides a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) agent that automatically adds APM instrumentation to your Java application. The instrumentation captures distributed traces and sends them to Splunk Observability Cloud.

To instrument your Java application, follow these steps:

  1. Check compatibility and requirements. See Java agent compatibility and requirements.

  2. Instrument your Java application. See Instrument a Java application for Splunk Observability Cloud.

  3. Configure your instrumentation. See Configure the Java agent.

You can also automatically instrument your Java applications along with the Splunk Distribution of OpenTelemetry Collector installation. Auto instrumentation removes the need to install and configure the Java agent separately. See Splunk OpenTelemetry Zero Configuration Auto Instrumentation for Java for the installation instructions.

For more information, see About the Splunk Distribution of OpenTelemetry Java.

Note

The SignalFx Java Agent is deprecated and will reach End of Support on December 17th, 2022. To migrate to the Splunk Distribution of OpenTelemetry Java, see Migrate from the SignalFx Java Agent.
